The town of Karlovy Vary, whose founding can be historically dated to the middle of the 14th century, has throughout the times become a world-renowned place for spas, medical care and tourism. It is, and has always been visited by significant personalities of the world's history - politicians, artists, and athletes. Let's briefly imagine the Karlovy Vary spas, which are annually visited by around 2 million people. Its current image has been mostly influenced by building and construction activities of the 19th century and by a trend of history and secession. There are more than 70 hot springs in Karlovy Vary, (with temperatures between 35-73 degrees Celsius), they are used for drinking, bathing and for special procedures.
(72 degrees Celsius). Above it, one can admire the baroque church of saint Máří Magdaléna, also used today for classical music concerts due to its unique acoustics. Also worthy of attention is the Town theatre building, constructed according to the design of architects Hellmer and Fellner as well. Opposite to it is the famous coffee shop called Elefant. The residential and villa district begins above the Mill colonnade, the so-called Karlovy Vary Westend - featuring a beautiful Orthodox Church of saint Peter and Paul and numerous luxurious hotel complexes, which again provide comfortable conditions for curative processes, as well as relaxation for the visitors of Karlovy Vary, who often come from the line of world politicians, royals or film celebrities. The hotel complex Thermal is connected with the town's modern history, where the International Film Festival takes place and has been for over 40 years, proudly comparable in significance with the festivals in Cannes, Berlin, San Sebastian, or Venice and lately also the large-scale sporting event, the Kanoe Mattoni, in white water canoeing. Sports activities and relaxation are also offered by the golf courses - at the horse racing track, and further the Olšová Vrata, Cihelny, or tennis facilities Gejzírpark and the Imperial. The town of Karlovy Vary is world renowned for the production of the herbal Carlsbad liquor called Becherovka, Thun porcelain and Moser glass.
